Modern slavery and environment statementsModern Slavery Act 2015 (voluntary at our size)

The public-facing substance of the data protection, public-data content and modern slavery areas is on How we publish, Your record and below. The rest are listed by name.

Information security

Access is least-privilege and individually attributed, with named accounts and multi-factor authentication; production secrets live in a secrets store and are scoped per service; every system we run is monitored; backups are taken and restores are tested rather than assumed.

Specifics — providers, architecture, monitoring coverage and configuration — are confidential and are shared under a non-disclosure agreement. A public page describing exactly how a system is defended is a page written for the wrong reader.

Modern slavery and environment

The business is below the Modern Slavery Act 2015 turnover threshold and adopts the substance voluntarily: no supplier is knowingly engaged that uses forced labour, and freelance platforms are used at fair market rates rather than race-to-the-bottom pricing.

The environmental footprint is small and mostly electricity. We prefer efficiently served static architectures, consolidate infrastructure with providers running on renewable commitments, and do not print what a screen can show.

Suppliers and contractors

Every engagement has a written scope, a named owner, a price cap and assignment of intellectual property in anything created. Any supplier who will touch personal data signs a processor agreement meeting Article 28 of the UK GDPR before access is granted, and is recorded in the processing register. Invoices and supplier correspondence go to the address on Contact.

About the name

The name comes from the economists’ warning that if you torture the data long enough, it will confess to anything. We take the joke seriously: every record we publish is checked against its live source, precisely so that our confessions are true ones.
